PwnTillDawn Online Battlefield – South East Asia Student and Fresh Graduate Edition 2022 was held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022.  This Online Battlefield Competition is conducted 100% online, which allows selected contenders to put their offensive skills to the test from anywhere!

The objective of PwnTillDawn Online Battlefield Competition as a participant is to evolve within a network comprised of many machines affected by real life vulnerabilities.  Such vulnerabilities have been actually witnessed by wizlynx group through hundreds of penetration tests conducted for companies and organizations of various sizes and industries. The PwnTillDawn “Capture-the-flag” (CTF) challenges contestants to break into as many machines as possible using a succession of weaknesses and vulnerabilities.  Upon the compromise of a machine, contestants have to collect flags awarding a certain number of points, in the hopes to raise their position above their competitors on the real-time scoreboard.

We truly believe that good education plays a crucial role in building a bright future for our children. Therefore, here we are committed to providing an atmosphere for students where they all can absorb good values from the industry practice.  I am extremely glad at the fact that all of us, are leaving no stone unturned in working towards this direction. Awards are a way to promote good behavior and competitive spirit.  This is why we organized an award ceremony to encourage students.

A tremendously welcoming event was conducted by UiTM Shah Alam as, Iman Irfan had initially participated in the second edition of PwnTillDawn in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 2019 and won 3rd place. Without any surprise, with full motivation, determination and support from family and lecturers, Iman Irfan, (gh0stb0y) won the 1st place for PwnTillDawn Online Battlefield for South East Asia Student Edition 2022.

Iman Irfan posted his gratitude on his LinkedIn profile:

I just completed 48 hours of CTF in the latest PwnTillDawn competition.  It was my second time since 2019 joining the PwnTillDawn competition (PwnTillDawn Malaysia 2019) where I finished 3rd. This time around, all the challenges were supremely fresh and interesting to encounter, that I found myself realizing I have things yet to learn.  After sleepless nights of not wanting to give up, it had remarkably pushed me to the limits that such an honor I managed to get myself into the first place! Thank you wizlynx group, for the extreme rollercoaster ride experience competition for me yet pleasurable and a learning curve for me.

Participant from Indonesia won the Second (2nd) Position

The 2nd place was grabbed by Achmad Zaenuri Dahlan Putra, (kosong) a student from Tenth of November Institute of Technology, which is a public university in Surabaya, East Java, Indonesia. The “kosong” named in Malay, which means “empty” or “zero” has proved that he had begun to bear fruit for the competition.

Comments by Achmad Zaenuri Dahlan in his LinkedIn profile:

Finished second place in PwnTillDawn South East Asia Student Edition 2022.  It is a CTF competition with boot2root style which has various machines like Linux, windows, and macOS. Apart from challenges, competition time is also an obstacle for me because it is on a weekday. But fortunately, I was able to take the time to do it.  Overall, it was a fun and great experience for me to improve my skill in pen testing!

Participant from Singapore won the Third (3rd) position

Meanwhile, the 3rd place was won by Reuben Seah, (b00tl04d) a student from Singapore Polytechnic, where he is currently pursuing his pursuing his Diploma in Infocomm Security Management.

Comments by Reuben Seah about his experience participating in the PwnTillDawn event:

I found the competition to be beneficial for people with little experience in such CTF events. Personally, it has helped me to improve on my enumeration skills.

wizlynx group is extremely pleased to host this event, and honored to see more participants from countries like Myanmar, Indonesia, and Vietnam participating.  We believe the PwnTillDawn competition will draw out more hidden talent while promoting offensive security and penetration testing amongst new generations.  Our hope with this unique program will fuel a passion for our awesome field which greatly lacks needed talent, as well as provide a safe place where individuals can practice their penetration testing and ethical hacking skills.

“Don’t worry, everyone is a WINNER in your unique ways”. Congratulations to all from the wizlynx group management!
